Instructions & Tips

Insertion

  1. First off, relax! The more tense you are, the more tense your pelvic floor muscles will be, and it can make inserting Uresta harder than it needs to be (and it’s really not that hard).
  • Try taking a few deep breaths prior to inserting
  • Gently push OUT with your pelvic muscles (like you do for a bowel movement) as Uresta is going IN. This will help to relax your muscles and open your vagina.
  1. A little bit of lubrication can help! If you are experiencing pain or discomfort when using Uresta, it may be helpful to wet your Uresta with a bit of warm water or use lubricant.
  • For those that are experiencing severe vaginal dryness or atrophy, estrogen cream or hyaluronic acid for vaginal use can help improve vaginal tissue health and be used in tandem with Uresta.
  1. A little lesson on anatomy
  • The vaginal canal is shaped like a funnel, not a tube. With the most narrow part at the opening of the vagina. You will need to insert Uresta past the narrow point. It is common to feel a bit of pressure as you insert the widest part of Uresta (the bell-shape) past the pubic bone.
  • Your vagina is on a 45-degree angle, pointing toward your tailbone. The direction you insert Uresta is very similar to how you insert a tampon or menstrual cup.
  1. Make sure you insert it far enough in! We promise you won’t lose it. If Uresta is falling out or if you can feel it once inserted or it’s uncomfortable, it’s probably because you haven’t inserted it far enough into the vagina.
  • It is common to feel a bit of pressure when inserting Uresta, especially as you insert Uresta past the pubic bone. But once in place and past the pubic bone, you truly shouldn’t feel Uresta, and it should be unnoticeable.
  • Once inserted, the bell shape of Uresta should be past the pubic bone, and the whole device, including the handle, should be in the vagina. The end of the handle should be 1 inch from the opening of the vagina. A good test is to insert a finger into the vagina until you touch the bottom of the handle, when properly in place, the opening of your vagina should be at your first knuckle.

Positions for inserting & removing Uresta

When inserting Uresta and removing Uresta, be sure to gently push OUT with your pelvic muscles, like you do for a bowel movement. This will also help to relax your muscles, open your vagina, and bring Uresta closer to the opening on removal.

Here are some common positions for inserting and removing Uresta:

  1. Sitting on the toilet
  • Try leaning forward a bit to relax your muscles.
  • For others, leaning back or to one side may be helpful. Or you might try putting one foot on a step stool for better access.
  1. Standing with one foot on a stool or toilet – bear down or squat in this position.
  2. Getting into a squat in the plie position
  3. Lying down on your back or your side

Tips for removing Uresta

  1. Take a deep breath and relax! The more tense you are, the more tense your pelvic floor muscles will be, making it more difficult to remove Uresta. We cannot stress this enough!
  2. “Bear down” to gain access to the handle of Uresta. It is common for Uresta to migrate a bit higher in the vaginal canal as the day goes on. The handle may be difficult to grasp at first, but bearing down (as if having a bowel movement) will help relax the pelvic floor muscles and bring Uresta closer to the opening of the vagina.
  3. “Break the seal” Uresta creates a bit of a natural suction in the vagina once in place. It is helpful to grip the handle with your finger and thumb, and then twist the handle or move it side-to-side to “break the seal” before pulling the Uresta down and out of the vagina.

How to find the right size

If you are new to Uresta, try the Bladder Support Starter Kit which includes the 3 most common sizes which fit ~90% of women.

Start with the middle size 4 included in the Uresta Starter Kit and follow the steps below:

You have found your perfect size if:

  • Your bladder leaking has stopped
  • You are able to empty your bladder without difficulty
  • Uresta fits comfortably and is barely noticeable
  • Uresta stays in place, and doesn’t fall out

Try a smaller size if:

  • You are unable to empty your bladder
  • It is uncomfortable

Try a larger size if:

  • Your bladder leaking has not stopped
  • Uresta falls out or shifts out of place when inserted

Some women find their perfect fit immediately, whereas others prefer wearing the different sizes over a few days in order to experience different things (e.g. standing at work, going to the gym, night out with friends). Take the time to find your perfect fit – you will be happy you did!

If you need to request our smallest (size 2) or largest size (size 6), neither of which are included in the Starter Kit. We can send you this additional size for free within the first 30 days.

Care Instructions

Just wet the Uresta with warm water and use a dab of any unscented hand soap. Then, lather it up and rinse with warm water. We do not recommend boiling your Uresta to sanitize it or using any harsh materials to clean it (such as cleaning products, vinegar, etc.). It is normal for the Uresta to discolor a bit over time.

Remember to always wash your Uresta before and after every use and use clean hands when inserting and removing.

Uresta should be replaced annually to ensure safe and effective long term use. Think of it like a wardrobe refresh. For safety and optimal long-term use, we recommend swapping out your Uresta at least once a year. It’s a hygiene thing, like renewing your toothbrush or switching out your socks. Keep it fresh, keep it comfy!
